Classical trailer music license

Modern trailer libraries all sound alike, which is why classical tension cuts through: real harmonic drama with centuries of recognition behind it. These five cuts deliver fate knocking, stormy strings, and gothic organ in short catalog excerpts built for teasers, trailers, and title sequences. License at Commercial for web and social campaigns or client cuts, step up to Broadcast and Film for theatrical trailers and broadcast spots, and traffic every version with the verification URL on file.

Recommended starting tier: Commercial $99 one-time

Client work, paid web/social ads & small-business marketing. Multi-project use.

What this license covers for trailers

The Commercial tier covers client and freelance trailer cuts, paid web and social promotion, small business marketing, and multi project use for the same licensee. That fits YouTube trailers, game announcements, book trailers, course launches, and sizzle reels distributed online. Theatrical trailers, TV spots, festival trailers, and broadcast advertising need Broadcast and Film, so confirm the placement list with the producer before licensing.

A common path is Commercial for the online campaign with an upgrade to Broadcast and Film when a theatrical or broadcast buy follows: upgrades cost the price difference only against the verified prior license. Name the production at checkout, keep the license PDF with the trailer project, and share the verification URL with the distributor or channel running the cut.

Which tracks fit trailers

Beethoven Symphony No. 5 first movement is the ultimate trailer sting: tense, urgent, instantly understood, perfect for title hits and act turns. Mozart Symphony No. 40 first movement sustains that tension over longer thriller and true crime trailers with driving strings. Vivaldi Summer third movement is stormy and fast for horror adjacent, weather, and chase sequences.

Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor brings gothic organ weight for horror, mystery, and villain reveals. The Moonlight Sonata third movement is urgent solo piano for prestige drama, documentaries with stakes, and finale montages. All five are compact cuts, so stack a sting plus a sustained bed: open with the Fifth, build with Mozart or Vivaldi, and close on the title with the Toccata hit.

How to cut them against picture

Trailer editing is about hits: place the biggest musical accents on title cards, logo resolves, and act breaks, and use risers from the sustained string cuts to connect them. Keep dialogue and sound design on top, since trailer mixes run hot and classical masters carry dense midrange that can mask voice. License before the final mix and replace every watermarked preview with the WAV, checking the Master ID against the PDF.

Version the campaign from the same licensed files: the 90 second trailer, the 30 second cutdown, and the 6 second bumper all draw from one license per track when the project and licensee match. Log the license ID in the version tracker so no cutdown ships with uncleared alternates. Never sell the trailer music as a standalone track or sound pack.

Claims on high reach trailers

Trailers get the most views in the shortest time, which means any rights problem surfaces immediately at scale. Our masters are not registered with Content ID and we claim no revenue from licensed uses, so launch day stays clean from our side. The compositions are public domain, so no publisher claim can attach to the notes regardless of view count.

Third party fingerprint matches against other recordings of the same classical works can still trigger at high volumes, and that is what the verification URL is for: dispute with the license ID, show the public page with track, tier, licensee, and issue date, and email support with the license ID, verification URL, and trailer URL. We use commercially reasonable efforts to release our own claim within 10 business days of a complete notice.

FAQ

Which tier for a theatrical trailer?

Broadcast and Film. Theatrical exhibition, festivals, TV, and broadcast advertising all sit in that tier. Online only trailers, teasers, and sizzles for web and social are covered by Commercial, and you can upgrade for the price difference if the campaign expands to theaters or broadcast.

Can I use one license for the trailer and its cutdowns?

Yes, when they belong to the same project and licensee. The 90 second trailer, 30 second version, and bumper cut from the same licensed track share its license. Separate productions or separate clients need their own licenses per track.
